What My Clients Have Taught Me About Giving

At SRM Real Estate Group, we are about more than just selling, buying, and financing homes. We are a values-based firm that puts people and purpose above profits. 

But this was not always the case. My journey to transform SRM Real Estate Group’s business model to include social purpose began years ago, with what photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson calls a single “decisive moment” (1) —my son’s Type One diabetes (T1D) diagnosis. My son’s situation led me to become involved with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the leading global organization funding T1D research.

Real Estate With a Purpose

Being part of the incredible JDRF community inspired me to evolve my business model in significant ways. SRM Real Estate Group’s purpose became “Changing lives for a better future,” and “Contribution” became one of our core values. I then expanded my company business model to encompass “social purpose”—when you work with SRM Real Estate Group, we donate to your preferred charity.

Over the years, my clients’ many acts of charitable giving have moved and enriched me. Here are just a few: 

  • I was struck by Hannah’s story of how Twenty-Five and Four filled an important void during a very challenging time in her family’s life.

  • I am grateful that Brenda, Kristin, and Michellene & Paul introduced me to Food on Foot, Elizabeth House, and NOHO Home Alliance, respectively, and helped me understand the important ways these organizations are serving the most vulnerable among us, the homeless.

  • Joan and David’s work with North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry, an amazing organization that provides food for those experiencing food insecurity, reminds me of the importance of empathy and compassion.

  • And thanks to Chantal, I was introduced to Luna Dance Institute where I discovered a new way of looking at dance.
